NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday released its final list of 38 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Delhi chief minister Atishi will contest from Kalkaji, whereas AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal will contest from the New Delhi seat.
Environment minister Gopal Rai, will seek to retain his seat in Babarpur. Health minister Saurabh Bhardwaj will contest from the Greater Kailash constituency. The list also includes former Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain, who will seek re-election from Shakur Basti.
Alongside Kejriwal’s bid for New Delhi, where he has won since 2013 the AAP faces significant competition. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to field Parvesh Verma, the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, while Congress has announced Sandeep Dikshit, son of Sheila Dikshit, the city’s longest-serving chief minister.
Kejriwal while sharing the parties list, took a potshot at the BJP alleging that the saffron party has no CM face.
“BJP is missing. They have no CM face, no team, no planning and no vision for Delhi. They have only one slogan, only one policy and only one mission – ‘Remove Kejriwal,’ he said in his post on X.
Other candidates in AAP’s list include Sanjeev Jha from Burari, Ajesh Yadav from Badli, and Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar. The party has fielded Amanatullah Khan from Okhla.
The party aims to retain its stronghold after securing 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 polls. Kejriwal, on multiple occassions has ruled out any alliance with Congress, despite both parties being part of the INDIA bloc. He said, “Aam Aadmi Party will fight this election on its own strength in Delhi.”
On Wednesday, Kejriwal, announced two major initiatives aimed at benefiting women in Delhi. He revealed that a scheme offering Rs 1,000 per month to every woman in Delhi has been approved by the cabinet, though the actual transfer of funds will be delayed due to upcoming elections.
Kejriwal also responded to concerns about inflation, stating that registration will begin for an increased honorarium of Rs 2,100 per month.
“Some women said that Rs 1000 will not be enough due to inflation. Therefore, registration will start from tomorrow for Rs 2100 per month. This revised amount aims to better meet the financial needs of women in the city,” he said.
