Traditionally considered a stronghold of the Pawar family, Baramati witnessed a dramatic shift in this assembly election as voters faced a tough choice. The constituency saw a split in loyalty between Ajit Pawar, the seasoned seven-term MLA and deputy chief minister, and 32-year-old Yugendra Pawar, making his electoral debut against NCP supremo Ajit Pawar, with the support of family patriarch Sharad Pawar.

This intense contest, filled with emotions, allegations, and drama, saw Baramati’s polling percentage rise to 71.03% on Wednesday, surpassing the 68.38% recorded in 2019. While final figures were still awaited at press time, political analysts believe the higher turnout could benefit Ajit Pawar, who secured a massive victory margin of 1.67 lakh votes in the 2019 election.
In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, NCP’s Ajit Pawar retained his Baramati seat by winning 195,641 votes, with BJP’s Gopichand Padalkar receiving 30,376 votes and VBA’s Gofen Avinash Shahji securing 3,111 votes.
In 2014, Ajit Pawar won with 150,500 votes, while BJP’s Prabhakar Dadararm Gawade garnered 60,797 votes. Voting for the Baramati constituency is scheduled for November 20, with results set to be announced on November 23.
