Chris Pratt Reflects on ‘Tragic’ Death of Stuntman Tony McFarr: ‘He Deserves to Be Honored’ (Exclusive)

Chris Pratt is mourning his lifelong friend and stuntman, Tony McFarr, who recently died unexpectedly at the age of 47 years.

Speaking with ET’s Kevin Frazier from the premiere of The Garfield Movie — which opens in theaters May 19, the 44-year-old actor spoke about the death of his stunt double and emphasized why it’s so important for stuntmen to finally get the credit they’re due after decades of hard work.

“Man, Tony was as tough as they come,” Pratt shared about his stunt double. Jurassic World. “It’s funny that that happened… that news and his tragic passing came around the same time as (the film). The scapegoat he left.”

“I think stuntmen are having a real moment being honored and he deserves to be honored for his contribution and all stuntmen do what they do,” Pratt told ET. “They’re the toughest guys, they’re by far the coolest guys on set.”

Over the weekend, Pratt shared a tribute to McFarr on his Instagram. “We made several movies together. We played golf, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set,” Pratt wrote in an Instagram Story. “I will never forget his toughness.”

“He was always a gentleman and a professional,” Pratt continued. “He will be missed. My prayers are with his friends and family, especially his daughter.”

McFarr died Monday at his home in Florida. His death was confirmed by his mother, Donna, who was the first to share the news with TMZ, saying that his son was “active and healthy” and that the death was “unexpected.” The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.

In a statement to ET, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed they have the case. “An examination has already been performed and the cause/manner of death is pending toxicology results,” the office said.

McFarr and Pratt first worked together in jurassic world in 2015. The specialist became Pratt’s double in Passengers, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomand, more recently, Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Outside of his projects with Pratt, McFarr worked on Bones, Homeland, teen wolf, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Captain America: Civil War, Counter and Loyal.

In a shared post from the set of GOTG 2 In 2016, Pratt introduced his fans to his lookalike and friend.
