Hannah Waddingham Gives Update on ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ and Working with Tom Cruise (Exclusive)

He Mission Impossible The series has become one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing and most acclaimed franchises, and Ted Lasso alum Hannah Waddingham is ready to do it Mission Impossible debut in the next eighth installment.

Waddingham walked the orange carpet at the world premiere of his new animated children’s film, The Garfield Movieat the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, and spoke with ET’s Kevin Frazier about the upcoming Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two.

“We’re about to start shooting again Mission, “Yes,” Waddingham confirmed. The film was originally scheduled to be released on June 28, 2024, but had to be delayed almost an entire year to May 23, 2025 due to the SAG and WGA labor strikes in 2023.

While Waddingham said of the story, “I can’t tell you too much, I’ll get scolded,” he had no shortage of praise for his co-star. Tom Cruisecalling it “beautiful and inspiring.”

He also talked about “spending five days on the fighter aircraft carrier (USS) George HW Bush.”

“We were on an Osprey (helicopter), landed on a moving ship with four and a half thousand Navy men and women and spent five days (on board),” Waddingham recalled. “I can’t express how inspired I was by Tom and (director) Chris McQuarrie.”

While her role is yet to be revealed, the actress said that her character is quite different from her breakthrough role in Ted Lessoin which she played wealthy soccer club owner Rebecca Welton.

“She’s a powerful woman,” Waddingham said of her. Mission Impossible character. “And she’s pretty functional.”

Long before fans get the chance to see Waddingham share the screen with Cruise, she will share scenes, albeit in cartoon animal form, with Chris Pratt in the last adaptation of the beloved comic strip, garfield.

In The Garfield Movie Waddingham provides the voice of a devilish and antagonistic Persian cat named Jinx, an experience the actress said she had a lot of fun with.

“They sent me the initial pencil sketches, which is a great privilege to see, you can’t see it, and it was so complete and so fast that I thought, ‘Her voice has to be as volatile as her frenetic nature.'” Waddingham. “So it was a real, immediate (connection).”

“I just knew who I should be, you know? Disgusting and so fucked up,” she added, laughing.

The actress also explained that her daughter Kitty, 9, saw a preview screening and “loved it.”

“We had a private screening. Sony did a screening for her and her entire year at school, which was amazing,” Waddingham said. “The mom points I got? I mean, I feel like I don’t need to take her on vacation! She was really great.”

“But that’s what it’s about. Right? It’s about (their children),” he added. “I want her to immortalize me as a big white fluffy cat.”

The Garfield Movie hits theaters on May 24.
