Britain’s Jack Draper beat Austrian Sebastian Ofner 7-6, 7-6 at the Stuttgart Open to start his grass-court season with a victory.

In a close and tense match, Draper claimed victories in both sets via tiebreakers, taking the first 7-4 and the second 7-5 to book his place in the round of 16 in Germany.

Draper, seeded sixth in Stuttgart, will next face the winner of the match between his compatriot Andy Murray and the American Marcos Girón, who will meet on Tuesday morning, live on Sky sports.

“I thought it was a really good game,” Draper said. “We both played very clean tennis and executed it very well.

“At the end of the day, I’m glad I competed very well and overcame the finish line; it’s also good to be back on the grass.”

“I don’t know (how he kept calm). Everyone here is a very good player, they can play good tennis too and sometimes you have to be present and not let it affect you too much.

“I played point by point and gave myself the opportunity to overcome the game.”
