Jeremy Renner Shares What He Told Daughter Ava After Snowplow Accident

Jeremy Renner is opening up about his terrifying accident. The 53-year-old actor recently appeared in The Kelly Clarkson Showand remembered having been crushed by a snowplow in January 2023.

“For me, it felt like the wind was knocked out of me, but I broke 38 bones, my eye came out of my head and my skull was crushed. It was pretty terrible,” Renner admitted. “I got over it, so that’s really all that matters at the end of the day.”

Getting over it But it was not easy, a fact that was initially “hidden” to Ava Berlin Rennerthe 11-year-old daughter the actor shares with his ex, Sonni Pacheco.

“The first 14 days, it was a lot of life support. I wasn’t supposed to survive,” Renner said. “She was hiding from all that. I even forgot about my daughter. That’s how messed up she was after the accident.”

When he came home from the hospital and was told his daughter was there to see him, Renner said, “That’s when it all hit home.”

“That’s when my life support really kicked in, because my daughter is my life force,” she said. “That’s it. I saw the fear on my daughter’s face for the first time. That’s when she looked at me in the mirror and I thought, ‘Oh, I must look terrible.’ I was a mess.”

“The reality of what happened really became apparent, what I had done to my daughter, what I really did to my nephew, to my entire family, that really became apparent,” Renner continued. “I asked him to wait for me. I told him, ‘These are just 38 broken bones, honey, and they’re all going to heal. I promise you, if you wait for me, I’ll be better, I’ll be faster.’ I’ll be stronger than you’ve ever seen.” before. I promise. You have to wait for me.”

It’s a sentiment Renner later expressed through music. On the first anniversary of his accident, Renner released their first single, titled “Wait”, from their EP, Love and titanium.

“The number one reason for my recovery is her. I asked her to ‘wait for me’ when I first saw her on January 14 when I got home. As I got better, she got better, she was less afraid,” Renner wrote in Instagram in time. “There is simply no better motivator for recovery than healing her family and friends.”

During his talk show appearance, Renner said healing through music was “very cathartic” for him and his family.

“My daughter plays the piano (and I wanted to) involve her in the process, turn it into something positive,” he said. “That’s what I’ve always tried to do since the accident. Music was a great outlet.”

In a recent interview with ET, Renner talked about another aspect of his recovery: returning to work. Renner returned to the set of mayor of kingstown in January 2024, even though he was worried he wouldn’t be able to perform the “basic duties” of his job.

“It was something different than what I really felt before. I was in a place of doubt,” he said. Hawk Eye said the star. “It’s 12 or 14 hours on a set. Whether you’re doing stunts or not, it’s exhausting.”

With the help of the cast and crew, Renner was able to “figure it out” and even insert some of his real-life emotions into his character’s performance.

“I inserted a lot of what I was feeling at the time,” Renner said, adding that his character, Mike McLusky, has “a little more finesse this season because my condition requires me to be informed.”

Season 3 of mayor of kingstown – which also stars Dianne Wiest, Hugh Dylan, Emma Laird and Kyle Chandler – will arrive on Paramount+ on June 2.
