Monaco GP: Charles Leclerc leads Lewis Hamilton’s second practice as Ferrari unleashes impressive pace | F1 News

Charles Leclerc unleashed the pace many expected from Ferrari at the Monaco Grand Prix and topped second practice at his home race.

Having opted not to use soft tires when Lewis Hamilton led the opening session on Friday, Leclerc was in a league of his own when he was finally given the opportunity to use the faster compound on the street circuit.

Hamilton completed an encouraging day for Mercedes by taking second and eventually closing the gap on Leclerc to two tenths as the seven-time world champion took advantage of the ever-evolving surface.

Despite improving on the eleventh place he obtained in the first practice, world championship leader Max Verstappen continued to struggle with the handling of his Red Bull and finished fourth, more than half a second behind Leclerc.

Lando Norris was fifth for McLaren but did not use a new set of soft tires during the session, while Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz was sixth.
