Snoop Dogg Talks Coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Why He Wants to ‘Shout Out’ to Michael Phelps (Exclusive)

Snoop Dogg He considers being chosen to be a special correspondent for NBC’s coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris as one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.

The “Gin and Juice” rapper expressed to ET’s Kevin Frazier how grateful he is for the opportunity to join NBC Olympics host Mike Tirico for the network’s primetime coverage. Snoop has been tasked with providing his unique take on what’s happening in and around the Olympic Games in The City of Light.

And what he appreciates most is that NBCUniversal allows him to be his authentic self.

“I’m going to do it, and what I love about the NBCUniversal team is that they really want Snoop Dogg to bring what he brings; stay within the realm of professionalism but take Snoop Dogg to the Olympics and I love that.” ” Snoop tells ET. “I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I look and play the part.”

Snoop’s unique sports commentary has gone viral on numerous occasions, such as in 2021, when he provided equestrian commentary during the 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021 in Tokyo, in which he nicknamed the horse Mopsie (also known as Rave Horse) as “gangsta” for his ability to “Crip walk”.

Of course, Snoop has been blessing the world with his unique comments. “It was a wake-up call to see that I can actually handle a really big event,” Snoop said of his commentary ability during that boxing match.

But there will be challenges ahead for Snoop, like the various names he’ll have to learn to pronounce. But he has a backup plan.

“Look, I’m going to let Mike Tirico handle that,” he joked. “That’s not my section. They want it to be Snoop Dogg. (But) man, if they want the names to be mixed up, I’ll do the honors.”

Snoop says he grew up watching the Olympics and that all the attention on the global event makes it so special.

“I think what makes the Olympics special is that everyone is watching it and it’s a meeting of peace,” he said. “Even though everyone competes, it’s all about love, athletes at the national level respect each other. The countries, for once, are all on the same page. There is no politics involved. It’s about competition, sports, camaraderie, legacy, love, and just the story of the Olympics. So, being there… (is) probably (one of) the greatest things that have ever happened to me.”

So what’s on Snoop’s wish list for the Olympics? Get in the pool with none other than the legend Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time with a whopping 28 medals (23 gold).

“I want to get in the pool. I want to see what my 50-yard freestyle looks like,” Snoop shares. “I’m about to yell at Michael Phelps. Phelps, Aquaman, do you think you can teach me a lesson?”
