Hailey Bieber has addressed speculation surrounding her relationship with husband Justin Bieber and why she initially kept her pregnancy private.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the couple was going through “difficult times.” Then, in May, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child together and had renewed their vows.
In a new interview with W, Hailey explained that her decision to keep her pregnancy out of the public eye for six months was initially due to both her desire for privacy and her small size. “I was actually able to keep it a secret because I stayed small for a long time,” she explained. “I didn’t actually have a belly until I was six months pregnant, which is when I announced it. I was able to wear big jackets and stuff like that.”
“I probably could have kept it to the very end,” she continued. “But I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to outwardly enjoy my pregnancy. I felt like I was hiding a big secret and it didn’t feel right. I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”
Though Hailey works with a therapist to help “compartmentalize” the negative attention she receives, she directly addressed the rumors fueled by her own father, who asked for “prayers” for the couple before revealing her pregnancy. “People have made me feel so bad about my relationship from day one. ‘Oh, they’re falling apart. They hate each other. They’re getting divorced. ’ It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy,” Hailey said, emphasizing that the comment “never actually hurts any less.”
Speaking about their relationship, she added: “At the beginning[of the pregnancy]it was very emotional for me. I was like, ‘I love this human being so much. How can I bring someone else into this?’ I’m trying to come to terms with these days where it’s Justin and me, just the two of us.” In fact, she left the interview to meet up with Justin in Idaho and spend some more time alone with him.
