‘Treating him differently’: Rahul Gandhi accuses PM Modi of shielding Adani despite US allegations

NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of undermining the constitutional principle of equality, alleging that the PM has shielded industrialist Gautam Adani despite serious allegations against him in the United States.
“PM Modi is treating Gautam Adani differently from people of India and is not willing to indict him,” Rahul Gandhi said in Kerala.
“PM Modi says it does not matter if Adani has been indicted in the US and called a criminal there; in India, we will not indict him,” he added.
He further alleged that the Prime Minister was discriminating against the people of Wayanad by denying them the support they deserve.
Rahul made the remarks during a joint public meeting at Mukkam in Kerala’s Thiruvambadi assembly constituency, where he was accompanied by his sister, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, following her maiden electoral victory.
The Congress leader paid tribute to the victims of the recent Wayanad landslides and expressed solidarity with those who lost their loved ones and property in the tragedy.
“Unfortunately, we are not in government and cannot do what a government can. However, I have urged my sister and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal to ensure that every Congress and United Democratic Front (UDF) member exerts pressure on the Kerala government to help the victims,” he said.
The joint meeting at Mukkam marked the beginning of a series of receptions planned for Priyanka Gandhi in Kerala. Events will also be held at Karulai in Nilambur, Wandoor, and Edavanna in Eranad.
Priyanka Gandhi secured a decisive victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, winning by a margin of 4,10,931 votes—significantly surpassing her brother’s lead during the general elections earlier this year.
