GTA 6 DualSense Controller Pre-Orders Launch With PlayStation Direct Queues and Rapid Sell-Outs

Pre-orders for the limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense wireless controllers went live on September 10, 2026, and PlayStation Direct immediately experienced hour-long queue times as demand overwhelmed the storefront. The two controllers, one black and one white, are priced at $84.99 in the US, £74.99 in the UK, and €84.99 in Europe, and are scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI.

Sony and Rockstar Games unveiled the controllers during the State of Play presentation on September 3, 2026. Both editions feature a shimmering, color-shifting finish, molded palm tree details, and official Grand Theft Auto VI branding on the touchpad. The Black Limited Edition is exclusive to PlayStation Direct in supported markets, while the White Limited Edition is also available through participating retailers.

Pre-Order Demand Causes Storefront Issues

PlayStation Direct began accepting pre-orders at 10:00am local time in the UK and Europe, and at 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET in the US. According to Gagadget, queue times in the US exceeded one hour just to reach the checkout page, and shoppers in some other regions found the store completely unresponsive. Several UK retailers, including Currys, Argos, and Smyths Toys, saw White Edition stock disappear quickly, with some restocking intermittently. In the US, Target’s page for the White controller was reported as sold out shortly after pre-orders opened.

Isabelle Tomatis, Sony’s Vice President of Global Marketing, said in the PlayStation Blog announcement: ‘Vice City’s unmistakable style comes to life in these two new limited-edition DualSense wireless controller designs.’ She described the White Edition as embodying Vice City at daybreak and the Black Edition as capturing the energy of Vice City’s iconic nightlife.

Scalpers List Controllers at Inflated Prices

Within hours of pre-orders going live, eBay listings for the controllers appeared at significantly inflated prices. According to Sportskeeda, one White Edition was listed for £169.99, roughly $229, more than double the official retail price. Similar listings have been reported on other resale platforms. Sony has not announced production totals or restock plans for either controller, and the Black Edition remains exclusive to PlayStation Direct.

A stock tracker query cited by Playfront indicated that Sony allocated 72,903 units of the Black Limited Edition to PlayStation Direct for the launch. The figure reflects stock for a specific warehouse and does not represent total global distribution. Even with this allocation, the Black Edition remained available on PlayStation Direct more than two hours after pre-orders began, according to the report.

Current Availability

As of September 10, 2026, the Black Limited Edition remains available through PlayStation Direct in the US and UK, though queue systems may still be in effect. The White Limited Edition has been subject to intermittent restocks at various retailers and sold out quickly at several outlets. Sony has not confirmed whether either controller will receive additional production runs after the initial launch allocation. Both controllers are set to ship on November 19, 2026.
