It’s hard to think of a moment during Thursday night’s presidential debate that left the black community more baffled than when former President Donald Trump said immigrants are taking “black jobs.”

Specifically, Trump said: “The fact is that their biggest attack on black people is the millions of people they have allowed to come across the border. They are stealing black jobs now and it could be 18, 19, even 20 million people. They are stealing jobs from blacks and Hispanics. You haven’t seen it yet. But you are going to see something that will be the worst in our history.”

Watch the clip of the debate below:

We don’t like to generalize, but based on the reactions on social media, it seemed like all black people were collectively saying the same thing at exactly the same time: What is a “black job”?

But, as with most things, Black Twitter managed to make light of the situation and offered some hilarious responses and reactions to Trump’s “jobs for black people” quote.

There were many, so here are some of the best:

The fact is that there is no such thing as a “black job” or a “Hispanic job.” There are simply jobs out there, and black people across the country continue to struggle to get them, and African Americans have one of the highest unemployment rates among ethnic groups.

As Representative Ilhan Omar wrote on day X“It would have been nice if there had been a follow-up to understand what he was trying to say.

Either way, the response we would have received would probably have been as confusing and infuriating as the comment itself, so perhaps CNN spared us that question.
