Layla Taylor and Mayci Neeley Signal Uncertain Futures on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives After Mikayla Matthews Exit

Layla Taylor and Mayci Neeley have both indicated that their time on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives may be coming to an end, one day after castmate Mikayla Matthews announced her departure from the Hulu reality series.

Both women confirmed they are currently filming season six of the show but stopped short of committing to future seasons.

Mayci Neeley Addresses Her Future

Mayci Neeley, 31, responded to a fan question on TikTok about whether she was staying on the show.

She wrote, ‘I am finishing this current season that we are filming and then not sure for after that’ [0†L17-L19].

Later on Monday, Neeley posted a lengthy TikTok video addressing scenes she filmed for seasons four and five that were ultimately cut from the show.

In the caption, she again suggested she might follow Matthews out the door.

Layla Taylor, 25, also addressed her future on the show during a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories on Monday.

When a fan asked whether she would return, Taylor expressed her affection for Matthews and described the situation as difficult.

Taylor added, ‘It’s such an impossible situation for everyone involved, but I am finishing season 6 and then [to be determined]’ [0†L31-L32].

Mikayla Matthews Announces Her Departure

Matthews, 26, announced her exit from the show on Monday, September 14, shortly after season five premiered on Hulu.

She shared the news in a lengthy Instagram post, writing, ‘I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment’ [5†L14-L15].

Matthews, who also served as a credited executive producer, said she was not comfortable being part of something that platforms behavior she does not agree with, especially given her own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse [5†L12-L14].

She wrote, ‘There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly’ [5†L16-L18].

Matthews continued, ‘And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching’ [5†L18-L20].

While Matthews did not name a specific reason for her exit, her statement follows months of controversy surrounding castmate Taylor Frankie Paul.

Background on the Show’s Turmoil

Production on season five was paused in March 2026 amid a domestic violence investigation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen [7†L22-L24].
