Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding Begin Filming Netflix Romance ‘Return to You’ in Toronto

Netflix has confirmed that Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding will star in the romantic feature ‘Return to You,’ with principal photography now underway in Toronto. The streaming service announced the project on September 28, 2026, the same day filming officially began.

The film is directed by Mark Waters, reuniting him with Lohan after their collaborations on ‘Freaky Friday’ (2003) and ‘Mean Girls’ (2004). Production is scheduled to run through November 10, 2026, with some reports indicating the shoot may also move to Chicago.

Plot and Setting

Set in 2008, ‘Return to You’ follows a powerful but lonely divorce attorney, played by Lohan, who mistakenly receives a very emotional DVD from a dying woman addressed to her husband. Guided only by the clues on the disc, she sets out to find the man for whom the message was intended, only to fall in love with the grieving widower, played by Golding.

Eric Champnella wrote the screenplay. Lohan produces the film alongside Brad Krevoy. Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend, and Galen Fletcher serve as executive producers.

A Major Creative Reunion

The project marks Lohan’s first film with Waters since ‘Mean Girls’ became a cultural phenomenon over two decades ago. Waters has recently directed several Netflix romances, including ‘He’s All That,’ ‘Mother of the Bride,’ and ‘La Dolce Villa.’

Lohan’s return to Netflix continues a productive partnership with the streamer. She previously starred in and produced ‘Falling for Christmas’ (2022), ‘Irish Wish’ (2024), and ‘Our Little Secret’ (2024). She also reprised her role as Anna Coleman in the 2025 sequel ‘Freakier Friday.’

Golding, known for his breakout role in ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ has appeared in ‘Last Christmas,’ ‘A Simple Favor,’ and ‘The Gentlemen.’ He recently starred in the second season of Hulu’s ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ and Netflix’s ‘Old Guard 2.’

Production Details

Pre-production on ‘Return to You’ began on September 21, 2026. The production team includes director of photography Ed Wu, casting directors Robin D. Cook and Jonathan Oliveira, line producer Galen Fletcher, and production manager Jessica Cheung.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date or additional cast members. Based on the production schedule, a release in mid-to-late 2027 is expected.
