Those Who Wish Me Dead Climbs Netflix Charts Five Years After Theatrical Release

Those Who Wish Me Dead, the 2021 action thriller directed by Taylor Sheridan and starring Angelina Jolie and Jon Bernthal, has become a surprise streaming success on Netflix. According to official Netflix Top 10 data, the film ranked No. 5 among the service’s most-watched English-language movies worldwide for the week of Sept. 7 through Sept. 13, 2026.

The movie recorded 4.3 million views and 7.2 million hours watched during that period. Its average viewing time matched its roughly 100-minute runtime, indicating that most viewers watched the film in full.

The film has been a consistent presence on Netflix’s U.S. charts since joining the platform in early September. It reached as high as No. 2 on the domestic chart before settling into the top five. As of Sept. 17, it remained the fourth most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States, ahead of titles including The Whisper Man and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

A Second Life for a 2021 Underperformer

Those Who Wish Me Dead originally arrived in theaters and on HBO Max in May 2021 as part of Warner Bros.’ simultaneous release strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film earned $19.1 million worldwide against a reported $20 million budget.

The movie received mixed reviews, scoring 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. It follows Hannah Faber (Jolie), a Montana smokejumper who protects a young boy named Connor (Finn Little) after he witnesses a murder. Two assassins, played by Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen, pursue them through the wilderness while a wildfire threatens the pair. Bernthal plays Ethan Sawyer, a local sheriff who becomes involved in the effort to protect Connor.

Bernthal’s Busy Year Drives Renewed Interest

The resurgence comes during a particularly active year for Bernthal. He returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Frank Castle in the Disney+ special presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill, which premiered on May 12, 2026. He will reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for release on July 31, 2026.

Bernthal has also appeared in the television series His & Hers and The Bear, and he has a role in The Odyssey. The renewed attention on his earlier work has helped bring viewers to Those Who Wish Me Dead.

Bernthal has spoken positively about working with Sheridan. In a previous interview, he said: ‘I’ll be honest with you, I’ll do anything with Taylor. I love Taylor.’

Taylor Sheridan’s Expanding Slate

Sheridan remains one of television’s most prolific creators. His current projects include Landman, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, and multiple Yellowstone spinoffs, including Dutton Ranch and Marshals.

Sheridan’s next feature film, F.A.S.T., is set for release on May 14, 2027, after being delayed from its original April 23 date. The action thriller will star Brandon Sklenar and Juliana Canfield, with Lakeith Stanfield, Jason Clarke, Sam Claflin, and Trevante Rhodes also joining the cast.

Those Who Wish Me Dead is Sheridan’s most recent screenwriting credit for a feature film. The Netflix resurgence has introduced the thriller to a new audience more than five years after its original release. The film remains available on Netflix, with no announced date for its removal from the platform.
